Troy and the 52-4 District Court

The City of Troy has a population of approximately 87,000 residents, making it the 13th most populated city in Michigan. Troy’s boundaries cover an area of 33.6 square miles in Oakland County with Interstate 75 running through the heart of the city. The city of Troy experiences some of the highest traffic volumes in the state of Michigan. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) of Big Beaver and I-75 crossroads is more than 120,000 vehicles daily. Troy has a major shopping area and is home to many automotive, and financial companies. The portion of Big Beaver Road located in Troy has millions of square feet of modern office space, trendy restaurants, top rated steak houses, and is where the Somerset Collection (shopping mall) is located. The 52-4 District Court

The 52-4 District Court of Troy is located at 520 West Big Beaver Road, Troy, MI 48048. The main number to contact the court is 248 528-0400. Currently, the 52-4 District Court of Troy has two presiding judges, Honorable Kirsten Hartig and Honorable Maureen McGinnis.

Criminal Cases: The 52-4 District Court of Troy administrates both misdemeanor and felony cases. A misdemeanor is defined as a criminal offense punishable by 1 year or less in jail and a felony is defined as a more serious criminal offense punishable by more than 1 year, up to life in prison. Operating While Intoxicated: In 2021, the Troy Police administered approximately 200 tests for alcohol and/or drugs for individuals suspected of driving under the influence according to the annual Michigan State Police Annual Drunk Driving Audit. This does not include tests by the Michigan State Police or other police agencies with authority in the jurisdiction of Troy. The tests measure for blood alcohol content (BAC) or drugs. The Those testing with a BAC .08 to .16 is grounds to charge for Operating while Intoxicated (OWI). If the BAC is .17 or more, the individual faces being charged with OWI with a High BAC (Super Drunk Driving). Although breath tests are administered exclusively to test for alcohol; blood tests are administered when drug use is suspected or by court order when an accused party refuses to provide a breath, blood, or urine sample.
